The Moore Family continues to run the business founded by Robert A. Moore, "Bob" in 1954. Shown in photo from left to right is Bob Moore, with his three children Demie Moore, Tracy Jarman and Andy Moore.

Seeing the possibility of using selected surfactants to improve water penetration into soil, thereby reducing the unnecessary waste of water, Bob Moore developed the first wetting agent technology which was patented worldwide.  The product first commercialized by Moore and Aquatrols was AquaGro®, the original soil wetting agent used in turf maintenance and soilless horticultural substrates.  Aquatrols became and remains today, the industry leader and innovator in these specialty areas.

Aquatrols took the soil surfactant/wetting agent technology to the professional turf maintenance and plant production industries, augmenting the original offering with improved and/or complementary products that contribute to optimizing growing conditions and improving the use
of water labor and other resources.

Aquatrols Commitment to The Industry

Aquatrols believes in supporting and contributing to the industries in which it works. Therefore we have established a long history of involvement within industry associations and initiatives. Aquatrols has been a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) for almost 50 years. Each year Aquatrols exhibits at national shows and has instructed many regional and national CEU seminars. We participate in symposia across the world which focus on environmentally sound alternatives to address water repellency issues and water management.

In 2000 Aquatrols established the Robert A. Moore Endowment Fund which is administered through the Environmental Institute for Golf through the GCSAA. Each year a portion of our proceeds goes to the Fund. The Endowment recognizes the contributions of Aquatrols and its founder Bob Moore and supports applied research in optimizing the growing environment and resource use for golf course turf.

The Endowment began funding research in 2005 supporting the research project Assessing Golf Course Water Management Options Under Drought Emergency being conducted in Las Vegas by Dale Devitt, Ph.D., of the University of Nevada-Reno.

Aquatrols’ Commitment to the Environment

At the core of Aquatrols’ purpose is concern about more efficient use of resources – especially - but not exclusively - water. Topping our list of values is Respect, not just for people but also for the world around us. These basic principles underlie Aquatrols’ Commitment to the Environment – in particular to being good stewards of the environment in the way we operate our business as well as in how our products affect the environments where they are used.

One of the ways Aquatrols has chosen to put this commitment into action is to enroll in Audubon International’s Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Businesses. Our goal as a Cooperative Sanctuary participant is to operate our business and manage our property in a manner that is consistent and aligned with our purpose, values, business messages and objectives regarding more efficient use of resources. In particular we aim to develop and manage our property so that it is compatible with Audubon International’s Principles for Sustainable Resource Management (www.auduboninternational.org/resources/Principles.pdf), and to operate all aspects of our business in a manner that makes more effective and sustainable use of our resources and the resources in our community, country and world.

Aquatrols also participates in and provides financial support to various initiatives that have an environmental stewardship focus. Examples include being a Charter Member of Audubon International’s Conservation Country Club ww.golfandenvironment.org/CCC/ regular contribution to and committee service with The Environmental Institute for Golf (www.eifg.org, http://www.eifg.org/support/endowments.asp#ramoore.htm and participating as a Contributing sponsor in the 2007 Environmental Principles of Golf Conference organized by the Center for Resource Management. In addtion Aquatrols recently became a Project Cooperator toward the Smithsonian Soils Exhibit.
